Los angeles just passed a ban on the sale of fur. Will Portland be the next major city to do likewise? On this episode of VFA, host Courtney Scott interviews Amber Canavan of Compassionate PDX, who will inform us about a plan to ban the sale of fur here in Portland. Amber became an activist when she was 14. She went vegan, after joining the peta2 Street Team and meeting activists from a local animal rights group that mentored her. Her activism for animals expanded into other issues and Amber began working on environmental campaigns and volunteering at the local women's shelter. She worked as a veterinary assistant at a low-cost spay/neuter clinic for about 7 years and completed her Bachelor's in Environmental Studies during that time. She works for PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) as a campaigner for vegan issues for her day job, and in her free time, co-founded Compassionate PDX to help pass a ban on the sale of fur within the city of Portland.
