The term ‘Missing Middle Housing’ was coined in 2010 to define a range of multi-unit housing types compatible in scale with single-family homes.

Cities across the United states, such as Seattle, Atlanta , Nashville, and Washington DC are turning to middle housing as a free market housing solution.

Mayor Wheelers Bureau of Planning and Sustainability is currently putting the finishing touches on Portland’s implementation known as the ‘Residential Infill Project’ or ‘RIP’
