a discussion with Penny Okamoto of Ceasefire Oregon, and Penelope Spurr of Students for Change, on gun reform efforts

The U.S. has less than 5% of the world’s population, but almost half the world's civilian-owned guns. We also have one of the highest rates of death by firearm in the developed world. Gun death rates in Oregon are even greater than the national averages, and most are suicides. As for mass shootings, the U.S. is an outlier with more public mass shootings than any other nation. Penny Okamoto, executive director of Ceasefire Oregon, and Penelope Spurr, a Lake Oswego High sophomore active with Students for Change, will be talking about their efforts to move beyond "thoughts and prayers," and bring the numbers down.
