In anticipation of Women's History Month and International Women's Day, Denise Morris and Frann Michel review two independent documentaries by women, and about women who were active in the liberation struggles of the 1970s; both will be playing in Portland the weekend of March 9-10. The Gentleman Bank Robber: The Story of Butch Lesbian Freedom Fighter rita bo brown, directed by Portland's Julie Perini, will play at the Hollywood Theatre Friday, March 9, 2018 at 7:30pm, and she'll be present; that's part of the Hollywood's Feminist March series. Left On Pearl is about the 1971 takeover and occupation of a Harvard University-owned building by hundreds of Boston area women who set up a Women’s Center in the building and demanded low income housing for the community in which the building stood. It was directed by Susan Rivo and plays as part of the 5th Avenue Cinema International Women's Day Program Saturday evening and Sunday March 10 and 11.
