For this hour we go to Charlottesville, Va. and hear voices, including that of author and activist Cornel West and the Rev. Tracy Blackmon, who participated in a mass prayer service at St. Pauls Memorial Church on Friday, August 11, in advance of the deadly rally of white supremacists held the next day in that city. During this Friday night service, hundreds of torch-carrying men gathered outside the church, invoking Nazi chants and menacing worshippers before marching onto the University of Virginia campus, where they attacked students and other counter protesters.

On The Ground"Voices of Resistance from the Nations Capital (www.onthegroundshow.org) is a weekly show that brings alternative news from DC. We cover social justice activism and activists, those who are in the DC area and those who come to DC from across the nation or from across the globe to speak truth to power. Esther Iverem, creator, executive producer and host, is an award-winning journalist, poet, visual artist and activist.
