Dmae presents a one-hour membership drive show. First up, she talks with Silas Weir Mitchell (of GRIMM) in Constellations at Portland Center Stage at the Armory. Then she travels to Ashland to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival to talk with UNIVERSES in their original production of UniSon, a mixture of August Wilson's poetry, music, movement and multimedia imagery. And finally we visit with Portland fave actress Lauren Modica who has been working at OSF in both Henry IV, part one and two at OSF. We'll be offering tickets for memberships for PCS and OSF as well as tickets to Portland Opera's Man of La Mancha. We'll be featuring music of the musical through the membership drive special!

Silas Weir Mitchell and Dana Green star in Constellations — playwright Nick Payne’s exploration of love in the multiverse — opening at The Armory on May 19, with preview performances beginning May 13, and regular performances running through June 11. Portland Center Stage at The Armory’s Artistic Director Chris Coleman will direct this multifaceted love story. Silas Weir Mitchell, who starred as the beloved Blutbad Monroe in NBC’s six-season series Grimm, will play the beekeeper Roland. Silas Weir Mitchell (Roland) returns to The Armory after making his debut in 2015 as Walker Janeway/Ned Janeway in Three Days of Rain. Prior to playing Monroe on NBC’s Grimm, Mitchell was best known for his recurring role as Charles "Haywire" Patoshik on FOX’s Prison Break and the role of Donny Jones in NBC’s My Name Is Earl. His other television credits include NYPD Blue, The X-Files, ER, Cold Case, The Mentalist, 24, Law & Order: SVU, The Closer, all the CSI’s, Burn Notice, Dexter, Monk, Six Feet Under, The Shield and Portlandia. His film credits include The Patriot, Inferno, Rat Race and The Whole Ten Yards.
The Oregon Shakespeare Festival will present the world premiere of UniSon by OSF ensemble-in-residence UNIVERSES, directed by Robert O’Hara in the Angus Bowmer Theatre through October 28, 2017.
UniSon is a high-energy, multimedia, music-filled theatrical experience inspired by the poetry of beloved playwright August Wilson, created by UNIVERSES in association with Constanza Romero. Granted access to Wilson’s poetry catalogue, UNIVERSES blends it into a mythically modern story of a dying poet who leaves a mysterious box to his apprentice, with strict instructions to destroy it. Curious, the apprentice opens it, releasing terrors that tormented the master throughout his life. This world premiere fuses poetry, theater, dance and music to explore the reconstruction of collective memory, blending UNIVERSES' one-of-a-kind artistry with excerpts of Wilson's poetry.
For this new musical, UNIVERSES’ Mildred Ruiz-Sapp, Steven Sapp and William Ruiz, a.k.a. Ninja have teamed up with co-composers Broken Chord and the critically acclaimed Toshi Reagon to craft the show’s mix of blues, hip-hop, R&B, classical music and jazz. OSF’s journey through Shakespeare’s history tetralogy continues after 2016’s acclaimed sold-out run of Richard II. Once again, the Festival’s intimate Thomas Theatre will play host to the political intrigues, machinations and battles of early 15th-century England, with a healthy dose of Falstaffian comedy thrown in. Henry Bolingbroke endures an uneasy reign as king, while his wayward son Prince Hal has fallen under the spell of Sir John Falstaff and his merry band of hooligans at the Boar’s Head Tavern. Rebel forces are threatening King Henry’s rule, and Prince Hal’s time to prove himself worthy of the crown is nigh.
Director Lileana Blain-Cruz, director of OSF’s Much Ado about Nothing in 2015, returns for her first foray into a Shakespeare history play. “

Author Miguel de Cervantes is about to go before the Spanish inquisition. In this play-within-a-play, he invites his fellow prisoners to “enter into his imagination.” Assuming the character of Don Quixote, he engages them all in a tale of chivalry, undoing wrongs, and bringing justice to the world. With songs like “The Impossible Dream,” it remains one of the most enduring—and endearing—works of American musical theater. Sung in English with text projected above the stage.
