A Diff Nature Was Out Ahead of CeLOUbration of Harrison et al
Bill Alves' and Brett Campbell's long overdue upcoming bio on Pacific Rim musical pioneer Lou Harrison should also cover the NW to Bay Area bohemian underground railroad and its listener-sponsored FM radio havens from KRAB in Seattle to KBOO in Po'Town and down to the greater Bay Area based in Berkeley's KPFA studios lodged in a cramped rickety walk-up above Edy's greasy spoon late-night diner on Shattuck Avenue and out to the Oakland hills at musical vanguard Mills College. The forthcoming book on Po'Town homeboy who never really got his due and his Medford partner also overlooked in Ore Lore dove-tails nicely with this welcome playlist by former TimbukTunes curator-proprietor and long-time A DIFFERENT NATURE collective contributor Andy Hosch's always sublime frequencies. If only there was more curiosity for the safe space that brave and creative trail-blazers like Lou Harrison and his musical instrument making partner Bill Colvig along with the host of their poetry (the Magus of Oakland Robert "OPENING OF THE FIELD" Duncan), dancers (ghosts of modern dance pioneer Isadora Duncan's troupe) \movement actors, war-resistors, theater ritualists and Asian-influenced entrancing template-shattering musicians secured for U.S. all. As Campbell notes in this preview run a couple of days ago in Oregon ArtsWatch:

The only free-form aural collagists to compare with KBOO's collectivists on A DIFF NATURE and Daniel Flessas's Friday After Midnight drop-in improvisers, players and mash-up plate-spinners on THE OUTSIDE WORLD would've been OTHER MIND founder and very creatively curious Fresno State College KPFA novice and Lou Harrison percussion apprentice turned sound collagist, aural artist and 1750 Arch Records studio co-founder\artist\ producer ongoing curator Charles Amirkhanian whose OTHER MINDS hasn't let much time pass between a fete for Lou Harrison's last live participatory project and this summer's international post-humus homage or CeLOUbration :
