Joseph Gallivan interviews painter Marlana Stoddard-Hayes about her new show Hyph

On Tuesday November 8, 2016, Joseph Gallivan interviews painter Marlana Stoddard-Hayes about her new show Hyphae [pronounced high-fay] at Butters Gallery though November 26, 2016.

The artist has lived for 17 years on an acre in West Linn with a garden and plentiful fungi. Stoddard-Hayes talks about her abstract paintings in which she uses acrylics on linen and panel, as well mushroom spore prints. She will explain how hyphae communicate between fungi and trees as well as represent the webs within our own bodies.

Marlana Stoddard-Hayes gives a free talk at 1 pm Saturday November 12 at Butters Gallery, 157 NE Grande Ave.

From the press release:

We present our third solo exhibition for Portland-based Marlana Stoddard-Hayes. All works in the exhibit begin with a series of impressions made from fungi placed directly on the panel and are inspired by the slower cycles of life that appear in the garden, as distinct phenomena.
