For the past week Oregon State Hospital has been dealing with a viral outbreak affecting over 70 people from its staff and patients.  
The outbreak has been identified as the contagious norovirus.  The norovirus leads to stomach flu and other gastrointestinal illnesses.  
The illness is spread by contact with an infected person or bodily fluids, and most sufferers recover in a couple of days.  
At Oregon State Hospital, 3 wards have been quarantined in an attempt to get the outbreak under control.  
KBOO reporter Adam Johnson spoke with Richard O’Brien, an epidemiologist at the hospital:
