BP'S CHRONIC CRIME'S AGAINST THE ENVIRONMENT
When the Obama administration temporarily banned BP from federal contracts last November, it pointed to BP's "lack of business integrity" and conduct relating to the 2010 Deepwater Horizon explosion and spill. But BP has a long history of non-compliance with federal regulation, not to mention outright criminal behavior. The company has been criminally convicted in four previous cases— including a 2005 explosion in Texas that killed 15 workers — and the EPA has been considering broader debarment proceedings against the company since at least 2005. On this episode of Locus Focus we talk with reporter Abrahm Lustgarten who has been following BP's past and present crimes against the environment for Pro Publica.
