Marijuana Legalization in Oregon, What to Expect
On June 30th, 2015, the day before adult recreational use of marijuana became legal in Oregon, leaders of the drug reform movement held a press conference at the ACLU office in downtown Portland. Speaking about why legalization matters, what to expect, and what’s next for the drug reform movement. We will air the audio of the press conference. U.S. Congressman Earl Blumenauer of Oregon has championed several federal legislative efforts to reform marijuana laws, he provided an update on efforts at the federal level. Measure 91 chief petitioner Anthony Johnson who co-wrote the new marijuana law and led the campaign to pass it, explained why a legal approach to marijuana is better for Oregon. Moms for Yes on Measure 91 and Women Grow co-chair Leah Maurer spoke about how legalization is better for children and families. Racial justice advocate and ACLU Executive Director David Rogers discussed how marijuana legalization is a racial justice victory for Oregon.
