'Tough on Kids' Laws
The Justice for Youth event was held in Portland on September 13th. The event was an opportunity to learn about the negative impact of “tough on kids” laws such as Oregon's Measure 11 that unfairly target youth as young as 15 years old and treat youth of color more harshly by prosecuting them in the adult system and sending them away for long mandatory sentences. Karen James interviews leaders from Multnomah Youth Commission, OregonCure, MRG Foundation, Red Lodge Transitions, NAACP Youth, Momentum Alliance and others. The event was organized by Partnership for Safety and Justice, Momentum Alliance, Oregon Student Association, and Multnomah Youth Commission.
