A loving tribute to the amazing STAN WOOD
A DIFFERENT NATURE presents The STAN WOOD MEMORIAL MAYHEM SHOW featuring special guests J Michael Kearsey, Mike Lastra and a special LIVE PERFORMANCE from none other than the infamous Dr. Amazon themself!
STAN WOOD was one of Portland's rare treasures and unsung heroes of experimental music. Inventor of the Vibraband, an instrument that nobody else seemed to be able to play as well as the master, Stan began playing it in the 1970s while in the band UPEPO. Original Upepo member J Michael Kearsey (another local legend!) will talk about those days and Stan's influence on others in Portland's music scene. Filmmaker and troublemaker Mike Lastra will bring clips of Stan performing on I've Got A Secret w/Alex Trebek (??!!), the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and other appearances including with Smegma, fellow inventor/musician Ken Butler, Dr Amazon and other projects, such as his own Vibraband Trio.
KBOO salutes this local and international legend. Stan Wood died just 2 weeks ago from complications after a powerful stroke. He was one of the sweetest men you'd ever want to meet. We'll miss you, Stan.
