Tonight on A Different Nature: we go to Finland as we listen to the improvisational experimentalism of HERTTA LUSSU ASSA, as well as material from solo projects from the three women who make up this group: KUUPUU (Jonna Karanka), LAU NAU (Laura Naukkarinen) and ISLAJA (Merja Kokkonen). Whether solo or as a trio, Karanka, Naukkarinen and Kokkonen play music that falls somewhere between freeform freakfolk and improvised psychedelia, often utilizing a wide range of instruments and odd tunings, world music influences and more. We'll hear from the two HERTTA LUSSU ASSA releases, as well as select tracks from the more extensive discographies of KUUPUU, LAU NAU, and ISLAJA.
