Veterans for Peace Vigil - Stop the Force-Feeding, Close Guantánamo
Join the Veterans for Peace Vigil Monday-Friday, 4:00-6:00 pm at Portland City Hall, 1221 SW 4th Avenue
Karen James interviews Viet Nam veteran S. Brian Willson, Tom Hastings, Jenika, Tom Horner and other Veterans For Peace at their vigil in solidarity with the uncharged Guantánamo prisoners. In February some prisoners began a hunger strike to protest conditions and indefinite confinement at the U.S. base in Cuba and some are being force-fed by tubes forced into their nostrils and then down into their stomachs. Eighty-six of the 166 men held at Guantánamo have been cleared for release. People around the country are participating in hunger strikes to bring attention to the plight of the prisoners at Guantánamo who have been illegally detained for over ten years with little recourse. Veterans for Peace demand President Obama take immediate action to release the prisoners and close the prison.
