Exposing the Wall Street conspiracy: An interview with Kristina Leigh Copeland
Filmmaker Kristina Leigh Copeland was digging into Wall Street irregularities years before the 2008 financial collapse. What she uncovered - manipulation of the market through "naked short selling" of stocks - became the focus of her first documentary, The Wall Street Conspiracy. While manipulation and fraud are not new to Wall Street, Copeland found that the shift to electronic transactions have made billion-dollar deals based on inflated share counts and manipulated price drops easier to commit and harder to uncover. Copeland's documentary comes as the Securities and Exchange Commission is expected to review short-selling regulations.
Jo Ann and Dave talk with Copeland about The Wall Street Conspiracy, the impact it has had on hundreds of companies and thousands of families, and on the long-term consequences for the nation's economy. As part of our special fall membership drive programming, we'll be offering a limited number of The Wall Street Conspiracy DVD to listeners who call in during the program and pledge support at the recommended level.
