One of Montreal's most avant-garde publishing houses is the Canadian independent comic collective Colosse. This summer, three up-and-coming Colosse artists embarked on a west coast tour, stopping in Portland to visit with Words & Pictures host S.W. Conser.
During the days of the Occupy encampment, Sophie Yanow moved from Oakland to Montreal to join Colosse, where she created In Situ, a politically and sexually frank journal comic with a poetic soul. She's joined on the tour by Francois Samson-Dunlop and Alexandre Fontaine Rousseau, whose graphic novel Pinkerton paints a farcical portrait of overeducated young bohemians musing on their early musical influences as they deal with romantic heartbreak.
