most people who listen to or know us are aware that for us, michael jackson is represented as a teacher and significant socio-political figure. in the second year of his transcendence, we still continue to honor him in this way, despite how lonely or frustrating the road increasingly becomes.
however, as the goal of 'guess who's coming to radio??!!' is about finding pro-active solutions, we decided to make connections with others and see if there was potential of others viewing him in this way as well. what you will hear are a series of responses and interviews on 'the socio-political significance of michael jackson'. there will also be portions of interviews done while we were working on a book on this very subject, but out of respect made the decision not to finish it in its current incarnation. one of the interviews was with fellow michael advocate (as well as a virgo, a teacher and now-current ancestor), our dear friend barry hampton.
of course, politics and socio-political theory are not relegated to voting and elections; how michael is viewed politically is as varied as the people i spoke with. throughout the varied responses is a definite connection, many never realized they had before speaking.
on what would have been the 53rd year of his existence on earth (come 29 august), we continue to honor his actions towards social and universal justice and self-determination.
