on thursday, the 18th of june we are
pleased to have momowilly, author of the upcoming 'the momowilly
experience'! based on the east coast, momo and her glorious afro
travel everywhere, spreading the word of her truth as she sees it.
from momo's myspace page:
"Provocative. Honest. Blunt. Hard-hitting. Audacious. momowilly’s
writing has been described as many things, but never boring.
An established poet, author, freelance journalist, and spoken word
artist, momowilly has consistently pushed boundaries with her work. As
the landscape of Black literature denigrated into redundant hip-hop
fiction and trashy erotica noir, momowilly appealed to those audiences
by combining the sensibilities of both, yet set herself apart with
honest and real short stories, not stereotypical. This debut,
“Neurotica: An honest examination into urban sexual relations” was
released in 2006 to critical acclaim and commercial success. Though
urban sexuality was the apparent theme, Neurotica focused on the
emotions of people in sexual situations, underscoring the most
sensual, humorous, and morose of scenarios.
After the release of Neurotica, momowilly was inappropriately labeled
as an erotic writer, though “I was never into writing sex books.
Neurotica was to educate more than titillate,” the author offers.
Picking up poetry as her new hobby, she entertained her penchant for
giving advice and understanding in a plain, straightforward style,
inflected with her down-to-earth humor. In the summer of 2007,
momowilly was cast for a reality show entitled “The Ultimate Author,”
due to air sometime in 2008. The experience showed momowilly how
strong her writing chops were, while forcing her to examine some of
her shortcomings. “I learned so much from the other castmates,” she
says enthusiastically.
A frequent attendee of the Harlem Book Fair, Black Writer’s
Conference, Pan-African Bookfest, and many other literary events,
momowilly has taken her outspoken personality and fortitude from the
internet to the streets.
Presently, momowilly is working on a speculative fiction novel set in
an alternate universe with many parallels to current social paradigms,
a collection of socio-political poetry, and two young adult works from
black female perspectives. The former “erotic writer” may seem to have
taken a departure from her previous work, but true fans know her
upcoming projects are in line with her specific perspective. It’s time
for the world to catch up. momowilly has arrived, and she has a lot to
say!"
guess who's coming to radio!!!
