Railroad companies submit details of oil and coal transport -- to whom?
A report this week by The Oregonian newspaper uncovered a major loophole in the monitoring and regulation of coal and oil transport throughout the state of Oregon.
According to The Oregonian’s report, railroad companies are not required to submit full records to the department of transportation.
But it’s not clear which agency these records SHOULD be submitted to.
So no one really knows where the oil and coal trains traveling through Oregon are at any given time, or how much fuel is on any given train.
KBOO’s Jenka Soderberg followed up on the Oregonian report by talking to several of the government agencies involved.
