Iven Hale reads a commentary and stories about women's sexual trauma in the military
Iven Hale offers a special Veteran days commentary. The conflicts of today are different from the wars of a hundred years ago, to which Veterans Day traces its origin. Women are now a significant portion of the armed forces, and while the abstract conflicts of today often tout the need to protect women from patriarchal foreigners, they are more likely to be raped/assaulted by fellow soliders (at a rate of 70 times a day, or 3 rapes an hour 24 hours a day) She offers stories of women's experience of sexual assault in the military.
If you have been sexually assaulted in the Military or otherwise, you can call the Veterans Crisis Line at 1-800-273-8255. The Sexual Assault Resource Center has a 24-hour Line at 503-640-5311 or toll free 1-888-640-5311.
