On a rainy and windy Saturday afternoon, protesters stood outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility on Macadam Avenue, Portland, Oregon. The facility has been in the national spotlight in recent months as federal agents detain and deport immigrant community members and the Trump administration fights to allow Oregon National Guard troops to be deployed in Portland. People gathered peacefully with signs, in costume and masks under the watchful agents who stood atop the facility monitoring the crowd. As host Karen James arrived at the facility, a peaceful demonstration had just completed as another Peaceful Interfaith Protest was preparing a silent solidarity march around the facility to drop flowers symbolizing persons who have been harmed or taken by ICE. Afterwards they planned to raise their voices together in song. Later that night, agents arrested people protesting at the facility. We’ll hear the voices of those peacefully protesting injustice at the Portland ICE facility.
