Host Glen Andresen and co-pilot Jim Gilbert are again live in the studio this month. Jim is just back from Italy…and learned some new things about growing olives and pomegranates. Fall is a perfect time to plant dormant bare root plants, as well as getting all you hoses coiled, drained, and stored where they won't freeze. Don't delay getting winter squash harvested and cured for optimum storage. Plus, Glen is experimenting with a "new" way to prune espaliered apple and pear trees. And there is still time to get those cover crops in.
As always, we'll have a new Plant of the Month (olives) and a new Garden Stumper--the first listener who calls in with the correct answer gets a free sharpening of a gardening hand tool from Cully Farm Store in Northeast Portland. Our musical theme this month is "Central Asia." Plus, our Dirtbag Dictionary term is :evergreen." And finally, what Glen is trying to understand this month.
Don't forget, if you have a gardening question, and don't want to call in, you can always email us at thedirtbag@kboo.org -- we'll answer your question on the air during the next show. And, surprise, this is the same email to use to answer The Garden Stumper if you don't want to call in.
The Dirtbag, a garden variety show... Listen. Laugh. Learn.
