News reports claim that emerging technologies that will solve the climate crisis, such as hydrogen, are just around the corner. But in reality these technologies are risky, costly and don’t really work all that well. Hydrogen in particular would actually speed up climate change. Yet we are on track to misallocate $1 trillion or more on hydrogen and other questionable technologies by 2040.
On this episode of Locus Focus we talk with Dr. Joe Romm, author of The Hype About Hydrogen: False Promises and Real Solutions in the Race to Save the Climate, about why we need to stop spending gobs of money on these fuels of the future and get serious about technologies like electrification that actually do work.
