Guest host Wendy Webb speaks with LA Street Phantom aka Joey Krebs, a longstanding force in the L.A. street art scene.
The Denizen Gallery @Milepost 5 and the Plum Bum Gallery brought Krebs to Portland to perform "You Don't Know What Art i$” for the closing of his visual art show “Blacklisted and Banned.” He premiered the piece on this installment of Art Focus.
Joey Krebs, media activist, street artist, performer, and visual artist, along with his collective ARTSAVESLIVES, calls the commodification of "street art" into question. Recently Krebs was one of the protesters of the censorship of the 2011 MOCA graffiti show.
LA Street Phantom aka Joey Krebs was cover artist for the punk-rock-rap group, Rage Against the Machine, for their first platinum album -- “The Battle of Los Angeles.” He was the creative director of two Rage Against the Machine music videos, including the MTV award-winning “Bulls on Parade,” and “Renegades of Funk.” These videos feature Phantom’s signature artwork, the silhouette or shadow, which serves as the archetype for the Public Everyman.
