This week on Century of Lies: Descheduling and Decolonizing Coca.

The Commission on Narcotic Drugs just completed a set of intersessional meetings in Vienna, Austria, which were held November 12 through 14. One of the topics under discussion was the international scheduling of the coca plant. The Plurinational State of Bolivia in 2023 had requested that the World Health Organization undertake a critical review of the classification of the coca plant, which is listed in Schedule One of the 1961 Single Convention.

On this edition of Century we hear from Adriana Foronda, a Bolivian diplomat serving as the Alternate Permanent Representative at Bolivia's Permanent Mission to Austria and to international organizations in Vienna, about Bolivia’s request, and from Deus Mubangizi, Director of the Health Products Policy and Standards Department of the World Health Organization, about WHO’s review.
