Award-winning independent director brings his art-car documentaries to Portland
Harrod Blank is a hero of underground culture, taking the prankster spirit to the world of documentary film. His mother was the erotic ceramicist Gail Perrin Blank and his father was legendary director Les Blank, known for his filmic studies of ethnomusicology. Harrod will be bringing his own films and the films of Les Blank to Portland in November.
In this special hourlong episode of Words and Pictures, S.W. Conser talks with Harrod about Werner Herzog, art cars, psychedelics, Burning Man, Delta Blues, guerrilla film financing, and growing up in a back-to-the-land commune.
