Parents have long taught children to wash their hands in an effort to avoid sickness. In fact, our society teaches us from a young age that germs and bacteria are basically synonymous with sickness.
However, in recent years critics have pointed to evidence that some of our efforts to stay clean may actually be harming our health. One possible example of this is the widespread use of Triclosan a chemical used in many products to reduce the likelihood of bacterial contamination.
Recently, concerns have been raised about a number of possible side-effects caused by the chemical. KBOO's Cris Andreae spoke with Kathy Dolan from the organization Food and Water Watch.
