Local opera veterans launch a new ensemble to perform in intimate spaces

Orpheus PDX is the newest opera company in the Pacific Northwest, bringing together talent from around the world with the intention of making opera more accessible and intimate.  Their inaugural season opened in August 2022 with the Monteverdi opera L’Orfeo, and continues with Philip Glass' The Fall of the House of Usher.

We're joined by Artistic Director Christopher Mattaliano, who spent sixteen years as the General Director of Portland Opera before taking on this new project.  He tells us how he came out of retirement to stage productions that rarely get performed by larger opera companies.

We're also joined by Publicity Consultant Julia Sheridan, who has been a Publicist and Communications Manager for Cirque du Soleil, the Portland Opera, and the vocal ensemble Cappella Romana.  Julia was an organizer for the popular program “Comics Night at the Opera,” which was duplicated by opera companies across the country.
