Portland is an international hub for stop-motion animation, and Jerold Howard and Suzanne Moulton are two of the most innovative artists in the field.
Suzanne is a filmmaker, artist, and educator. She’s worked with Tim Burton on Frankenweenie and Henry Selick on Coraline, and she teaches animation at the Portland Art Museum’s Co:Laboratory. Jerold's handiwork can be seen on Saturday Night Live, Portlandia, and feature films such as Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit.
During the Covid pandemic, they both found time to expand their home studios and create very personal projects. Jerold's most recent short film, produced in partnership with Oregon Public Broadcasting, is called Quarantine Kat. Meanwhile, Suzanne has been working with the Center for Biological Diversity and the Tahoe Wolf Center on her short film Nowhere’s Wolf, which spotlights wolf reintroduction and makes the most of non-toxic and recyclable materials.
