Ernest Tubb and a variety of country music

This week's Swing 'n' Country features music from Ernest Tubb, born in Crisp, Texas in 1914, died in Nashville in 1984. The Country Music Hall of Fame Museum webpage describes him: “Honky-tonk singer-songwriter, movie actor, record retailer, a longtime Grand Ole Opry star, and member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, Ernest Dale Tubb was among the most influential and important country performers in history...Throughout his own illustrious fifty-year career he gave numerous younger stars invaluable broadcast and concert exposure.”

 

You can hear some of Ernest Tubb's music at the start of the second hour around 7 o'clock.

 

The show opens with a set of popular songs from the 1980s. Later on, George Jones sings He Stopped Loving Her Today, which won a Grammy for the Best Country Male Vocal in 1980. The show settles into a variety of music from a variety of decades, including the fledgling 2020s. Speaking of fine country performers, there's a pair of Tom T. Hall songs to finish up.  I'm gonna miss him.
