The Beaver Believers: a film by Sarah Koenigsberg

As we honor Earth Day 2021, the theme running through today’s KBOO programming is the impending climate crisis, and its affect on our home planet. And we’ll be introducing you to people and organizations who are working to protect our environment, and all its inhabitants.

On today’s show, we focus on one of those inhabitants, a species of great importance especially here in the Pacific Northwest. I’m referring to Oregon’s official state animal, the beaver.

Our four guests have joined together to form The Beaver Coalition (or TBC for short), with a mission to empower all of us to partner with beavers through education, science, advocacy, and process-based restoration.

We’re fortunate to have with us today, Sarah Koenigsberg, a Founding Board Member of TBC and their Communications Director, as well as creator of the documentary film The Beaver BelieversJakob Shockey, a wildlife biologist and TBC’s Executive Director; Dr. Emily Fairfax, an Assistant Professor of Environmental Science and Resource Management at Cal State University Channel Islands; and, Dr. Chris Jordan, the Chair of TBC’s Scientific and Technical Information Committee. Chris is also a fisheries biologist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

You can learn more about the Beaver Coalition, and help support their work at https://www.beavercoalition.org/

There's also a special Earth Day virtual screening of Sarah's doc The Beaver Believers on Sunday, April 25th at 5pm PT. Tickets available here.
