Sleeping Bag Drive

KBOO is proud to support to the Sleeping Bag Drive:

Cold, rainy weather has hit Portland, with temperatures below freezing. For the homeless, sleeping bags are essential to survival in the harsh Oregon winter, and can be the difference between life and death. Statewide, over two thousand people are living either on the streets, camping, or in a car, with thousands more living without permanent housing or stable conditions (Oregon Housing & Community Services, 2010).

Laughing Horse Books, Red & Black Café, Microcosm Publishing and Alberta Co-op Grocery are teaming up to collect sleeping bags and donations, which will go directly towards sleeping bags (as well as tarps to protect from the rain) to be distributed in the local area. We’ve handed out over 25 bags so far, going out into the community on bicycles with warm vegan meals cooked with help from Food Not Bombs, along with donated tarps, scarves, gloves, and beanies.

With many fellow Portlanders sleeping without shelter, it's necessary to provide what resources we can. WE NEED A LOT MORE HELP!

Our next pick-up date is Wednesday, December 15th,
