Recent research is connecting chemical exposures to the rising rates of obesity.                 In a forum sponsored by the Oregon Environmental Council, Bruce Blumberg, Associate professor of development and cell biology, visited portland to discuss his research on the subject.Increasing numbers of studies suggest that minute exposures to certain chemicals can pre-program  children to be obesity-prone from birth.  These chemicals, known as obesogens  interfere with gene expression at critical times in development.Blumburg spoke on how our hormones affect how we gain weight and specific chemicals being identified to affect these hormones.  That was Bruce Blumberg speaking on obesity caused by exposure to chemicals. Blumberg was speaking as part of the Oregon Environmental Council’s Healthy Environment Forum series, which aims to link some of Oregon’s most difficult environmental and health challenges.
