Air date:
Mon, 12/03/2012 - 9:00am - 10:00am
Short Description:
Obama's neoliberal education policies, the problem with work, future of palestine, left press readin

Iven Hale hosts this next episode of the Old Mole Variety Hour and we hear:

  • Alan Wieder comments on Obama's "deformist", neoliberal education policies.
  • Joe Clement interviews Kathi Weeks about her somewhat recent book "The Problem With Work: feminism, marxism, antiwork politics and postwork imaginaires". They'll talk about what she calls "the politics of work" and how that differs from and addresses blind-spots in traditional "class analysis", socialist-feminist critiques of capitalism, why the division of labor matters, the demand for a basic income, and the so-called work-ethic, which has been a powerful but problematic rallying point for both the left and right.
  • Bill Resnick talks with Chris Toensing, an editor of Middle East Research and Information Project, about the future of Palestine after the UN resolution on Thursday the 29th and the potential for radical democratic politics.
  • Iven Hale reads from the Left Press.
