Short Description:
The future of the Boardman Coal Fired Power Plant

The future of the Boardman Coal Fired Power Plant, the source of 40% of Oregon' s energy, is up in the air along with the 5 million tons of carbon dioxide, 15,000 tons of sulfur & nitrogen oxides, & 200 pounds of mercury it produces every year that make it the largest source of air pollution in the state. Oregon's DEQ is reviewing the Title V permit that allows PGE to operate the plant. Hear from those involved in the debate on what's next: shutting it down as early as 2014 and switching to other sources of energy, installing pollution controls(scrubbers) and running in compliance with EPA standards until 2040, or as PGE has proposed, installing limited controls of mercury & oxides of nitrogen and closing down on 2020.
