Short Description:
Chuck Sheketoff joins Abe and Joe to discuss Measures 66 & 67

With the January special election looming, the Oregon Center for Public Policy's Chuck Sheketoff returns to dissect Measures 66 & 67. The two ballot referenda address the unfashionable, outmoded, and vaguely socialist notion that wealthy people should pay more taxes in exchange for, well, the privilege of being wealthy.

I know, right? Like that'll ever catch on.

Spread the tax burden.

Mr Sheketoff  states that those people who can pay should pay more.  Well let's add a revenue tax on all non profits.  Many non profits provide generous compensation to their so-called 'employees'.   We should levy an additional tax on state employees.  They all have guaranteed incomes and benefits. We should have a surcharge on all union dues.  The unions seem to have very deep pockets when it comes to politics.

Why doesn't anyone address the gross waste of money by the state government?  $43 million dollars per year for smoking cessation programs.  Give me a break.  What about unfunded PERS debt?  What about all the tax breaks  for so-called 'green' businesses?  Most of which fail, or could never succeed without large infusions of money from the tax payers.
