KBOO and its Utility Operational Costs

Thanks for posting todays event.  However, KBOO recently completed its membership drive, I had been a KBOO supported in the past, but something struck a nerve while listening to a comment, perhaps inadvertent, during the pledge drive, one of the hard working and well intentioned workers stated, something to the effect that a KBOO's electricity bill was equal to X$ amount per month.  The amount sounded small & was a pitch to listeners, that over the course of a year a contribution of X$ would cover KBOO's electricity cost to run the station.

OK, so KBOO apparently highly support this vague notion of "sustainability", so why not convert your energy source, at the station to "off the grid" energy?  e.g. there are manuels for homes and buildings to "go green" (which sounds cliche), so why not get on it, support an effort for those in the KBOO community to have KBOO's station convert their energy/ultilities to "green" sources?  In Berkely, CA a book was published in the early '80's re how to build a completely recycling, self contained/sustained home from the bathrooms and how waste was used & converted so as to rather completely erase use and need for external energy sources.  I'll try to find the name of the book, or perhaps one of your Directors/management staff can look into this and it could be a model for the community.

I am not "better" than KBOO in this greening thing, after all, I am writing this on a laptop, which is plugged in and contains a multitude of wires, drops of elements mined and refined to create a computer; but if KBOO were to launch a magnet project as suggested above, I would volunteer to help (I am not an engineer, but I do have time, energy and 2 arms, legs, to follow construction instructions by an achi.+ engineer for such a project.

Just a thought,

Bring It

Great, We just started a sustainable energy program and are in need of help to get it moving. Please contact me to see how you can help with this effort. Thanks, Web
