Boston-based Rye Development wants to build the largest pumped-storage hydroelectric development in the Pacific Northwest and in the process destroy irreplaceable Tribal Cultural and Religious Resources. Pumped storage is touted as the most efficient way to store solar and wind power and the Goldendale Energy Storage Project touts itself as green energy. But building this project will destroy irreplaceable Tribal Cultural and Religious Resources. And that is why it is facing so much opposition from all the impacted tribes along the Columbia River as well as river and tribal advocates. Now the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is considering the project's license application and so far seems poised to approve it.
On this episode of Locus Focus we talk with Lauren Goldberg, executive director of Columbia Riverkeeper, about why FERC’s responsibility to conduct consultation with the Tribes has been woefully inadequate.
Take a look at the site where the Goldendale Energy Pumped Storage Project would be sited.
And here is an opportunity to sign a petition asking FERC to deny the permit for this project and the GTN Express Gas pipeline Expansion
