The National Religious Campaign against Torture or NRCAT with Linda Gustitus
The guest is Linda Gustitus, President of the National Religious Campaign against Torture or NRCAT, a Washington, D.C.-based group opposing torture. For nearly thirty years Ms. Gustitus worked on the staff of Senator Carl Levin and was Chief of Staff for the Senate Permanent Investigations Subcommittee.
NRCAT's main mission is to end all US sponsored torture. Their initial focus was on the CIA and military torture program for 9-11 detainees. They continue to seek a national commission of inquiry into what the U.S. did and to hold those who tortured accountable. NRCAT is trying to get the Senate Intelligence Committee to make public its 6,000 page report on the CIA torture program.
Another important issue is ending the use of prolonged solitary confinement in US prisons, working specifically on the issue of solitary confinement in U.S. prisons as torture.
