Green Syndicalism, Steady State Economics, A Practical Utopians Guide, Food-Stamps for All
Joe Clement hosts this special Earth Day Old Mole and we hear:
- Joe talks with Jeff Shantz, author of the book "Green Syndicalism: an alternative red/green vision". They discuss the need for alliances between radical environmentalists and revolutionary unionists, the need to reject jobs vs. the environment rhetoric, and how a workers movement is needed to halt the machinery destroying our planet and society.
- Bill Renick talks with Robert Dietz, author of "Enough is Enough: building a sustainable economy in a world of finite resources". They discuss the need for and possibility of building a steady-state economy rather than one of constant or so-called "sustainable" growth.
- Tom Becker reads from an article David Graeber wrote for The Baffler titled "The Practical Utopian's Guide to the Coming Collapse", in which he makes a call for a planetary strategy of not only debt-forgiveness but radical reductions to the work week.
- Joe reads a commentary on why we should and can just give everyone food-stamps.
