Noam Chomsky talks about "State Spying and Other Matters" with host David Barsamian

Alternative Radio host David Barsamian recently interviewed noted scholar and professor Noam Chomsky about "State Spying and Other Matters."  Chomsky puts the Snowden revelations in the context of historical government spying. “If technology,” he says, “or other means of control and domination are available, then power systems are going to use them.” Chomsky relates the continuities between Bush and Obama in foreign and domestic policies. He examines Obama’s assault on civil liberties and the prosecution of whistleblowers. Israel, Palestine, events in Turkey and Syria are also discussed, along with the pitfalls of third parties in the U.S. and much more.

Summer pruning of fruit trees; espalier primer; growing parsnips

It may be summertime, but you can't take it easy in the garden. July is the perfect time to prune fruit trees, and host Glen Andresen and guest Jim Gilbert will discuss what to do and how to prune your home orchard. Plus, a short primer on espaliering.

As always, a new Plant of the Month (parnsips); a new Garden Stumper quiz (with actual prizes this month--tickets to "More Than Honey" at the Hollywood Theatre's 1st Annual Portland EcoFilm Festival); what's going on in the honey bee hive this month; and answers to your gardening questions.

The Dirtbag... Listen. Laugh. Learn.
