RIP, New Deal. We hardly knew ye.

If you listen closely, you can hear the last rasping breaths of the New Deal as it lays down to die. For the first time in history, a sitting Democratic president has proposed cuts to Social Security -- the single most popular government program of all time, and a bedrock of the modern American social contract. Well played, sir.

Abe and Joe parse the semantics and the substance of this lamentable move.

But her writing success has been a long time in the making. In this interview with Dmae Roberts, Cheryl Strayed tells us about her road to fame, writing with brutal honesty and her love of family.

Joseph Gallivan interviews painter Seth Tane

On Tuesday April 9, 2013, Joseph Gallivan interviews painter Seth Tane.

Tane is a realist painter who depicts industrial maritime scenes (oil tankers, large ships, tugs etc), as well as street scenes from San Francisco and New York.  Tane has a fascinating background which includes shipping heavy sculptures for New York sculptors such as Mark Di Suvero in the 1970s, captaining ships, manufacturing tugboat pilothouses and running a marine salvage business in the waters around Portland.
