Pound Foolish: Exposing the Dark Side of the Personal Finance Industry

Host Michelle Schroeder Fletcher interviews Helaine Olen about her new book, "Pound Foolish: Exposing the Dark Side of the Personal Finance Industry." For the past few decades, Americans have spent billions of dollars on personal finance products. As salaries have stagnated and companies have cut back on benefits, we’ve taken matters into our own hands, embracing the can-do attitude that if we’re smart enough, we can overcome even daunting financial obstacles. But that’s not true. In this meticulously reported and shocking book, journalist and former financial columnist Helaine Olen goes behind the curtain of the personal finance industry to expose the myths, contradictions, and outright lies it has perpetuated.

Dick Berk Special - Part I - Jazz Adoption Agency

Renowned jazz drummer and long-time Portland resident Dick Berk

will be featured and honored today during KBOO's 45th anniversary

Spring Membership Drive.  Dick's discography is too extensive

to cover in one show, so today we'll showcase Dick's many years

of wonderfully swinging music leading his Jazz Adoption Agency.

Dick is ailing and can't be with us in person today.

We ask you to send a get-well card to Dick in care of Bob Riddle, KBOO-FM,

20 SE 8th ave., Portland, OR 97214.  We aim to get him well

to hear his voice for Part II of Dick Berk's specials -

featuring his music with Billie Holiday from the first 1958 Monterey Jazz Festival,

his years with Cal Tjader and much more - planned for his birthday, May 22.
