Greg Pahl on how communities can organize & launch community-scale renewable energy projects

POWER FROM THE PEOPLE: How to Organize, Finance and Launch Local Energy Projects - author Greg Pahl

More than ninety percent of the electricity we use to light our communities, and nearly all the energy we use to run our cars, heat our homes and power our factories, comes from large, centralized, highly polluting nonrenewable sources. On this episode of Locus Focus, we find out how it doesn't have to be that way. We will talk with energy expert Greg Pahl, whose new book Power from the People details how communities can empower themselves to prepare for the emerging energy crisis by launching their own community-scale, renewable energy projects that harvest energy from the sun, wind, water and earth.

Are Your Prescriptions Killing You?

You most certainly know someone whose life depends on the prescription drugs they take: it may be your husband, who takes sleeping pills to counteract the anxiety his heart medications cause him, or it may be your aging father, who takes upwards of twenty pills a day for everything from arthritis to high blood pressure. But we’ve all read the headlines: prescription drugs can kill you. If that’s the case, why are so many Americans, particularly those sixty and older, given so many pills, with no regard to how they interact with one another?

Pionees of Tape Manipulation

On this episode of A Different Nature, who'll explore artists and pieces that best exemplify the manipulation of found sound via magnetic tape.

Tape Manipulation distinguishes itself from similar genres involving magnetic tape such as Tape Music, Musique Concrete or Electro-Acoustic Music in that it utilizes found sound and recontextualizes it, either artistically or to make a counter, ironic statement, rather than something recorded by the artist specifically for manipulation.

It's an art-form that is literally as old as the medium itself, as we'll attempt to demonstrate in this episode.
