Well, since today is my birthday (Michele) and i'm now 45, we played ONLY 45s for the show, the only exception being the first two selections from CDs; the first cut allowed us to get the turntables set up after the Ital Vibes show, and the second tune was a Happy Birthday cut to me from Teresa!  After that it was a magnificent 45 shootout.

Thanks to Kathryn and Dennis who both called in wishing me a happy birthday and letting off some serious loving vibes for Shocks of Sheba.  Big ups!

THE MELTING POT - Featured Artist ........ BLUETECH !!!

Tues 12-29-09 8-10pm online @KBOO.FM on "THE MELTING POT" w/ DR.J

                                                        BLUETECH

A classically trained pianist and master of the art of software
production. Bluetech's love of the melodic and exquisite sense of
sound design makes him one of the most ingenius producers today.
Bluetech's sound emerges from his custom-built Reaktor instruments and
software based synthesisers as a primordial electro-dub alchemy. While
encompassing musical touches from different parts of the globe, he
presents a total blend, crossing genres and borders.
Bluetech has created a label called Native State Records to release
his own music and music from other artists who cross boundaries
between ambient/chill and more idm/experimental sounds.
Not content to stay at home, Bluetech has toured extensively and
performed in Japan, UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, Croatia, France,
Denmark, Mexico, United States, and Canada.
Bluetech has released two albums on Aleph Zero Records, an
internationally acclaimed chill label run by recording artist Shulman,
and is currently working on a third for release in 2008. Aleph Zero
brought Bluetech's music to the attention of the international chill
audience, and helped to launch his career worldwide through strong
support and beautiful packaging. Stay tuned for the next chapter!

Evan Bartholomew, under the moniker Bluetech, produces his unique
style of experimental noise from San Diego, CA. Classically trained on
the piano for public performing, Bartholomew deviated from the
traditional sounds and began to express the rhythms that sprouted from
within him, and Bluetech was born. This resulted in his interpretation
of nature's expression of being, a sound that is dronal ambient,
downtempo, improvisational. He devoured the electronic potentials for
musical expression and conveyed it in IDM, digidub, and psychedelic
trance.
Bartholomew created and runs his own art collective in San Diego and
does commercial sound design and production for both national and
regional clients. He also writes and produces his own songs. "The
Rubicon", "Prayers For Rain", and "Mezzamorphic" originally appeared
on an EP released by Truffle Records, and brought the name Bluetech to
a larger audience. In September 2003, these songs appeared on
Bluetech's first album, Prima Materia, released by Waveform Records. ~
Eleanor Ditzel, All Music Guide

Finally it is here - the eagerly awaited third Bluetech album on Aleph
Zero - The Divine Invasion. Three years in the making, The Divine
Invasion offers an irresistible mix of spacey dubby beats, dreamy
atmospheres and unique compositions. The same irresistible mix that
made the New York Times label Bluetech as “one of the best ambient
artists” following the release of his previous album - Sines and
Singularities.

In The Divine Invasion, Bluetech, a master of downtempo electronica,
goes deeper and farther into new uncharted territories. From his
distinct mellow oceanic ambience, emerge playful complex sound games
and subtle yet sweeping currents of emotion, amalgamating into
wordless songs. Bluetech is a master in the art of creating danceable
music full of ambience and ambient music that makes you dance, as The
Divine Invasion perfectly proves. Hosted here are electronic music
pioneers Mirror System (aka System 7), progressive trance dancefloor
masters Ace Ventura and Lish, and Aleph Zero’s own Eitan Reiter.

bluetech returns with his first new material since 2005. after
splitting his musical expression into multiple aliases, phoenix rising
marks his return to eclectic, ecstatic, and emotional electronic
music, and exists as a precursor to an expansive album entitled the
divine invasion coming early 2009 on aleph zero records.

A Different Nature playlist for 12/28/2009

Program name:
A Different Nature

12/28/2009

Tonight on A Different Nature, a look at the works of Brion Gysin.
He is perhaps best known as a collaborative partner of William S. Burroughs and for introducing him to the cut-up technique.
Brion worked in painting, collage, calligraphic art, sound poetry and writing, but in his life never achieved the recognition that his peers did, despite his efforts latter in life and those of Burroughs, who frequently championed Gysin as his inspiration during what they called their "Third Mind" era.
Perhaps one of Gysin's most enduring - and curious - inventions is the Dream Machine. Part kinetic sculpture, part spiritual shrine, the Dream Machine was intended to create a drugless high and lead to mystic visions. Gysin hoped it would replace the television in people's homes and believed it was art taken to the logical apex - that it was the end of art. The Dream Machine remains an esoteric oddity among hipsters and is shrouded in mystery and intrigue to this day.
He also collaborated with many musicians, most notably Jazz saxophonist Steve Lacey.
Brion Gysin passed away in Paris in 1986.

Here's a link to an online, virtual Dream Machine: http://www.netliberty.net/dreamachine.html

Please note: This can cause Photosensitive epilepsy in some people, depending on the frequency chosen.

Greetings Friends!  Thanks for listening this morning...great music, eh?

You might have heard one or both of the tracks I played from a brand new CD entitled simply MFNW.  That stands for MusicFest Northwest--you know, that festival of hip cool indie music that took place in town back in September.  By donating to KBOO through the Give!Guide I got this CD as a little gift.  I love it!  Our KBOO website has all manner of information to let you know how you can get this CD, the Chinook Book, and a whole host of other thank-you gifts.  Support your local, independent radio station!  I thank you.

I have a big special show planned for you on New Year's Day.  Tune in from 7 to 9 am for some tunes you have never heard before....it's going to be VERY different and all wonderful!

Warmly,

Diane
