OCPP Releases New Report on OR Economy
From housing construction and real estate to high tech and manufacturing, Oregon’s economic growth is so strong, it’s second only to the oil-boom state of North Dakota.
But hunger and food insecurity have also risen in the state despite the economic recovery.
That’s why increasing the state’s wage floor would benefit the business sector as well as families.
That’s according to the newest report from the Oregon Center for Public Policy.
Last fall the OCPP released a study showing that nearly one in six Oregon households doesn’t have enough to eat.
KBOO’s Lisa Loving spoke with Juan Paul Ordonez about their newest report.

The OCPP’s report says the best strategies for sharing the benefits of economic property across the economic spectrum include:
--significantly increasing Oregon’s minimum wage,
--protecting workers against wage theft
--and creating a health care Program providing affordable, health care to low-income Oregonians who earn too much to qualify for Medicaid.
