Renowned climatologist Philip Mote will be the keynote speaker at a conference TONIGHT, 7:00 PM, at Portland State University, Smith Memorial Student Union Building ballroom , located at 1825 SW Broadway Avenue.  Mote’s speech, titled, “Can We Solve the Climate Problem? Should We Even Try?,” will explore how scientific knowledge can be used to tackle some of the world’s most complex environmental and societal issues. Mote is director of the Oregon Climate Change Research Institute at Oregon State University and a leading scientist on the impacts of climate change. The event is free and open to the public. The Transit Riders Union holds its weekly meetings, Saturdays at 12 noon at PSU's Chit Chat Cafe, located at 1906 SW 6th Avenue in Portland.  These sessions are to work to hold TriMet accountable for safety, having the TriMet board elected by voters, and stopping the fare increases and service cutbacks  Bring your ideas, energy, brainstorms and direct action experience.  More information at 503-222-2974

Enjoy a beautiful summer evening on Sauvie Island, learning about the Sauvie Island Center, touring the Sauvie Island Organics farm, and listening to music while enjoying a picnic on the grass.  The farm is gathering their friends and supporters to introduce them to the work they do educating youth about food, farming and the land. See the farm, experience their educational programs, enjoy live music on the grass and dancing in the barn.  There will also be beer and other beverages, dessert, live music, and friendly tour guides.
