LNG Pipeline Hearing brings locals together

On the evening of Friday, June twenty-fifthth, local citizens of Clatsop County, attended a hearing to debate the building of a One-hundred and twenty mile long Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) pipeline here in the state of Oregon.

The proposed pipeline would travel though both forested, rural, and urban areas carrying high-pressured, non-odorized liquefied natural gas.

This is a combined project of NorthernStar Natural Gas and the Oregon Pipeline Company…

The proposed project would build a three-foot diameter high-pressure pipeline that would funnel gas from Oregon to the enormous energy markets in California.

Local residents of Clatsop county, which includes the towns of Astoria and Seaside, came to the meeting with grave concerns for the safety and utility of the proposed pipeline.

With the B-P oil spill disaster fresh in people’s minds, residents pointed out the lack of an adequate emergency plan, since much of the area that the pipeline passes through is prone to earthquakes and landslides.
