As you know, today is Armistice Day: The Day of Peace. Mercifully it was agreed in 1918 that the Great War, the First World War, the "War to end all wars", would end on the eleventh minute of the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month. Traditionally, two minutes of silence are observed at this eleventh minute. Please join with members of the Portland chapter of Veterans for Peace and many others to observe this Day of Peace in the Pioneer Courthouse Square.

November is "Labor History Month", which was enacted in 1991 by the Oregon Legislature. To celebrate, the Northwest Oregon Labor Council is sponsoring a Veterans' Day forum to honor those who served in the military. "Veteran Workers Tell their Story: Our Living History" will be held from 2 to 5pm at the Multnomah County Central Library, 801 SW 10th Avenue. The event is free and open to the public. space is limited. The Milwaukie Poetry Series Committee and the Ledding Library are delighted to announce that November's reading will feature the poetry of Don Colburn, an accomplished poet and reporter for the Oregonian. He has won the Cider Press Review Book Award, the Finishing Line Press Prize and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. The reading will be held on tonight at 7pm in the Library Pond House at 2215 SE Harrison in Milwaukie.

D'mae Roberts, radio producer and recent contributor to Oregon Humanities magazine, will deliver a keynote lecture, "Secrets of a Mixed Race Child", as part of Lewis & Clark College's Sixth Annual Ray Warren Multicultural Symposium, Mixed: The Politics of Hybrid Identities.
